Exterior home remodeling contractor  in New Jersey can sell their service for an arm and a leg.   I used to be a sales rep for one.  They had a million dollar sales training program and trained me how to break down a piece of siding a hundred ways.



Let me share my experience.  I had what they called, “Bad luggage.”   It meant, I had experience installing siding and sold it in the past. It became difficult for me to look at the home owners in the eye and sell their vinyl siding styles at their RIDICULOUS PRICE.   Ridgewood, Paramus, Oradell, Fairlawn, Lodi, Glen Rock and Rutherford home owners could save on their costs and prices.

The longer I stayed the easier the sales but I didn’t feel good.   It was for the best that I didn’t know anything.   They wanted to teach me everything themselves.  Put it this way, their top reps could convince you black is white and white is green. Remember this when you greet them at your door One day I had a sales appointment. 

  

It was a small one family house. It had several types of house siding installed.  Old stone vinyl siding on the front, Certainteed or Royal vertical vinyl siding on the dormer and metal siding on the rest of the house. You know, one of those pretty combinations.   Plus, it was in a distressed area of town. They were a nice couple but I didn’t believe they needed our particular product.

They took me to their basement, it was a small studio and had Owens Corning vertical vinyl siding installed. I glanced at their windows and knew they weren’t Custom Milgard Windows or Simonton replacement windows. They served me dinner.  As I ate, I noticed the husband’s dirty factory boots and his old t-shirt.



This particular sale was not to install vinyl cedar shake siding but a window replacement sale.  Lyndhurst, Ridgefield Park, Rochelle, Dumont, Park Ridge, Hackensack and houses in Wallington  could always use new bay, bow or sliding windows.

They needed 5 vinyl replacement windows for the basement. I started to feel awkward because I knew the price for the double hung windows and they weren’t wholesale price.  Plus as a corporate siding salesman, there was one goal.  The windows had to be sold the same night or no deal. Each window now would be about $800.00



Five basement exterior windows for a studio room in the basement would cost $4000.00. I contacted my vinyl siding sales company I spoke to my sales manager and he said, ” Sell it, Sell it, they have to buy now!”  I thought, perhaps this company is not for me, their vinyl siding material pricing was too high.  Maybe, I did have bad luggage.

It can’t be installed in all house siding types.  We installed them and they look fantastic, a futuristic look and it goes well with the house architect. However, we seen homes which didn’t look pleasant at all with vertical siding. Be careful, if you have your hear set on it, than, it’s okay but make sure it meshes well because sometimes, it just won’t make the cut.




Houses with scalloped siding are aesthetically pleasing when they’re installed on the right place. I wouldn’t recommend vinyl siding scallops on the entire house unless it is Victorian scalloped siding. Put a sprinkle here and there. The peaks of the house, dormers and certain highlighted areas. It makes a dramatic finishing touch in areas like Livingston, Verona, Upper Montclair or Cedar Grove Township.

Seamless Siding, it sounds good by name but there really isn’t seamless siding. Maybe there is LESS seamless vinyl siding. We installed them and they’re just too expensive and time consuming to install.  This vinyl siding material pricing is not worth the investment, in our opinion. I remember one home owner in Short Hills told me, ” I got the Cadillac of siding.”

Well, he got a Cadillac but he bought it for the price of a Ferrari and above the average price of vinyl siding per square foot. When material started running out it was a nightmare trying to bring seamless siding to the work site. 25 and 16 feet long panels are available and they’ll do just fine.

Certainteed Beaded vinyl siding has a sophisticated look, very elegant. With the right trimmings it looks marvelous, however, the angles are a pain to cut with my snips.  Crane Insulated board & batten vinyl siding trails in. Again, this look depends on the house and the creativity of the home owner and contractor. It’s installed on many garages and sheds but they look great on homes too.
